The facility, located in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, is projected to create more than 27,000 direct and indirect jobs. Tata Electronics CEO and Managing Director Randhir Thakur recently affirmed that both the Dholera fabrication plant in Gujarat and the Assam packaging facility are progressing according to the timelines committed to the government.

The Union Cabinet approved the proposal by Tata Electronics to build the state-of-the-art greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, on February 29, 2024. The project is envisioned under the Government of India’s Semiconductor policy, driven by the India Semiconductor Mission, and the Government of Assam‘s Electronics policy.
Assam has been actively pursuing industrial growth and investment, with Chief Minister Sarma consistently pitching the state as an attractive investment destination. The state’s Industrial & Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA), 2019, amended in 2023, offers customized incentives for mega investments, requiring a minimum initial investment of Rs 100 crore and the generation of at least 200 permanent jobs. Initiatives like the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit have generated substantial investment commitments, with projects worth approximately Rs 3.5 lakh crore already converted into on-ground investments within a year, according to Chief Minister Sarma.
The 592-acre site for the facility previously housed the Nagaon Paper Mill, and its strategic location near Guwahati, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, and access to the Brahmaputra River offer significant logistical advantages. The state government has also focused on improving the business environment through single-window clearances, which have facilitated over 2.5 million approvals, the Chief Minister said.
